Disclaimer: we, Keith and Melissa acknowledge that we are the B-team, only allowed the privelege of posting to Peggy's blog while she is on hiatus. Apologies in advance as our reports will not be nearly as entertaining. In fact, once Peggy reads this, we expect our 2 minutes of fame will be over! (We all know who is really in charge.)
Day 1: Peggy had a fantastic day!
After nearly 5 hours of surgery, Dr. Mittal reported that he successfully resected the tumor. Recovery time was abbreviated "Peggy style" to 10 minutes vs. original estimate of 1-2 hours. The nurse knew Peggy was ready for her room based on the substance of their conversation - today is Tuesday, only 5 days until her 35th wedding anniversary (for which Keith better plan a 'big' gift).
We found Peggy in her room, not only awake, but chatting comfortably with the nurse. Priority #1 was food. We started with ice chips and quickly graduated to fruit (kudos to Laura for bringing that Sunday). Dinner came and despite a valiant effort, it went mostly untouched. Peggy was hungry but not hungry enough to eat the beef stroganoff and carrots provided by the hospital. Thankfully we were able to get her a real salad (greens, chicken, pumpkin seeds, cranberries, etc.)
In between the food courses, Dr. Mittal and Dr. Chet (ICU resident) each stopped by to check in on her progress.
Before we knew it, all 3 of us were yawning. A good night of sleep will not be difficult tonight (hospital confirmed Peggy was asleep as we called from the drive home).
Wednesday Preview
* Rest, rest, rest!
* MRI between 12-4am
* Follow up with Dr. Mittal
* Physical and occupational therapy assessments
* ETA on release from Neuro ICU
We will update everyone tomorrow (unless the author steals the reins.)

PS - Peggy knows and appreciates that her recovery is a team effort. Again, huge Thank you for all the continued thoughts, prayers, calls, emails, cards, texts, etc. It has helped all of us tremendously. Given this, Peggy has made sure that all new members of the KMA team are up to her standards. Case in point - she asked Dr. Chet (ICU resident) exactly what he brought to the table. Dr. Chet won her over with his knowledge of her case AND the confidence/humility to quote an Indian saying that sometimes old patients know more than young doctors.
I've been a blog-stalker since I learned you've been KMA. Thankful you're still the Peggy I know, adore, and admire even when adversity continues to knock on your door. You are in my prayers and thoughts. You go woman, you go and KMA!!!!!!
