Day 2: Home!

This poster conveys it all - Peggy truly is Superwoman! Unbelievable progress made today (not that anyone should be surprised).

After two failed attempts at 12:30am and 2am, the MRI finally happened at 3:30am (emergency MRIs kept kicking her out of line). Back in the room at 4:30am just in time for pain meds and removal of the arterial port (AKA 'A-line')!

Keith came with Peggy's favorite breakfast (oatmeal) around 6. Doctors gave Peggy unanimous thumbs-up during morning rounds and said that she would definitely be leaving ICU with the potential to go home, provided they could remove the surgical drain.

Peggy took a mid-morning nap and felt strong enough to take a stroll around the ward with Brittany, rockstar nurse of the day.

After their stroll, they returned to find the doctor waiting to take out the drain. (The doctor who by the way mistook Melissa for the Physical Therapist and Keith for Peggy's dad. Ouch!)

60 minutes later
* IVs were out
* discharge papers and prescriptions in hand
* Brittany ready to chauffeur Peggy down to the car

By 3pm we were home. By 4pm, we were already playing our 'favorite' role as warden (Peggy already needed her favorite 'reminder' to REST). She 'had' to stand on that chair to reach something in the closet...and those dishes 'had' to get washed. We're taking it as a good sign AND taking deep breaths rather than scoffing at Peggy's relentless spirit.

Stay tuned for Day 3.

  6. Peg: Love the story! LOL! Ya think those guys would learn to have those dishes done BEFORE you get home! (Do you think the dishes are there to test you?) That being said, I am so VERY HAPPY for this news - anytime I get to hear stories about the same ol' Peggy, I am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! Love ya!
